FAMILY ProgramThe Family Program is a school-wide program designed to offer support to incoming freshmen as well as build unity and school spirit across the classes. The Family Program consists of nine families named after the nine foundations begun in Ireland by the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley: Kingstown, Tullamore, Charleville, Carlow, Cork, Limerick, Booterstown, Galway, and Birr. Each of the families is comprised of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who meet daily on an alternate schedule of grade level homerooms and multi-grade family rooms and stay together all four years. One teacher is assigned to each homeroom and each family room and generally stays with the homeroom/family room through their four years of high school. The families meet in their grade level homerooms to build and promote class unity, obtain grade level information, and participate in grade level activities. The families meet in their family rooms to mentor freshman family members and build unity within their family by participating in spirit activities throughout the year. Junior Big Sisters chosen from each family lead small groups within the three family rooms to help welcome and acclimate their newest family members to Assumption. Sophomore, junior, and senior representatives are elected by their families and are responsible for leading their family rooms in family spirit activities throughout the year.
